Have you ever wondered whether you could write a play? Are there themes in our community and in your life experiences you would like to explore?
Theatre Wakefield’s mandate includes developing and exhibiting new talent in the community. Over the years, Wakefield has presented many original works by residents, including Scott Hebert-Daly (Much Ado About Lizzie, King Beer, A Splash Quite Unnoticed, The Blake Field Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre Series)
Designed for those new to writing for the theatre, Scott is offering 4 monthly playwriting sessions on Saturdays in the fall and winter where you will explore the process of creating and refining a theatrical scene for a public performance in the Spring. Scott will share the context of theatre in the human experience, character development and scene building, and the practicalities of creating pieces for the stage. Directors and actors will then take your scene and prepare for a performance in March before a live audience.
Scott has 25 years of experience working with new playwrights of all ages. He focuses on creating a safe space to explore ideas and expression. In particular, he is skilled in drawing on people and ideas from the Wakefield community and bringing them alive in his plays. He will share this process with you, including how to work with a director to bring your ideas to the stage.
This is a series of workshops. Scott asks for a commitment to all 4 sessions plus the evening performance (for those who have a scene ready).
This workshop is recommended for adults (18+) as there may be mature content.
