Shakespeare Class

Shakespeare – tough to understand, tough to act, right? Not so fast! Discover the sheer joy of playing Shakespeare, along with solid actor strategies and hands-on experience! Chelsea resident Eleanor Crowder will offer you simple keys to acting Shakespeare: you’ll play with Tudor cartoon characters, mouth trumpets and how to greet a king. We’ll work from physical improv to trying out some of the great speeches in this fast-moving and entertaining series of classes!

No memory work necessary. For adults, youth and older kids.  (You do need to comfortably read modern English.)

Eleanor Crowder has directed over 20 productions of Shakespeare’s plays. A performer writer director producer, she has toured this lovely country with bands of actors who relish the power of old texts and new friends. Her own work includes Family Album, Momma’s Boy, Windfall Jelly, and most recently Skin Songs, coming to grips with issues of our own time.  She produces with Bear & Co. In Ottawa.  (You may recall Shakespeare with sword fights and fire dancers at Fairbairn House; and Bear & Co’s sold-out production of King Lear at the Centre Wakefield La Pêche back in 2019).
